Meet the Life Member – Sue Hosken

If you’ve been around the club for any amount of time, you’ll have come across Sue Hosken at some level – in our office managing our books, managing the women’s SBL team, managing the sales of club merchandise.

Today, we’re thrilled to be able to share a bit more about Sue with you.

Sue first joined the Perth Redbacks in 1991 via our domestic competition at Leisurelife, Victoria Park after moving south of the river from the Wanneroo district. Her three children played with Panthers Domestic Basketball Club, and later all three played WABL for Perth Redbacks through all grades to Men’s Under 20s and Women’s Under 18s. Anne-Marie (now Arnold) went on to be a coach at WABL level before taking on the role of WABL Co-ordinator for many years. She was also a junior referee with the Domestic Competition and later married Bryn Arnold who is now a Life Member and Board Member.

Sue joined the Junior Committee Board after being with the Club for a few months and over the ensuing years has coached domestic teams and managed the Leisurelife Competition for 11 years before going on to manage the SBL Women’s team for ten years. Sue finally retired after breaking her ankle badly in Bali.  She was lucky to be the Manager when our women’s team won the 2000 SBL Grand Final.

Over an eight-year period, she also managed several WABL junior teams while holding positions on the Domestic, Junior WABL, Fundraising and Management Committees.

She’s also held positions on the Perth Redbacks Board as Secretary, Vice President, President and Club Treasurer and has been honoured to receive the Medal of Honour, two President Awards and in 2009 received the greatest honour: Life Membership.

Thank you for everything you’ve done for us Sue!
