CONCUSSION

Basketball Australia adopts and adheres to the Sport Australia Position Statement on Concussion.

It is important to note the Return to Sport protocol for children 18 years of age and under mandates:

  • 24-48 hours of deliberate physical and cognitive rest for a player who has suffered a concussion
  • Children should not return to contact/collision activities before 14 days from complete resolution of all concussion symptoms.
  • Medical clearance is required before returning to contact sport activities (i.e. basketball training and games)

The Return to Sport Protocol for adults over 18 years of age mandates:

  • 24-48 hours of deliberate physical and cognitive rest for a player who has suffered a concussion
  • Medical clearance is required before returning to contact sport activities (i.e. basketball training and games)

If you are unsure whether a player is experiencing a concussion, then you must treat it like they definitely have a concussion and seek a medical evaluation as soon as possible.
