Lost against Willetton 25-67
Coach comments
- The girls did a fantastic job on rebounding and assists in today’s game! They are improving, although we still have some areas of improvement to work on. But overall, the intensity and hustle were outstanding!
- Cairee, Mina, Lily and Lillian outdid themselves on defence, which created turnovers for Willetton.
- Charlee’s good reads and assists gave the team a couple of good looks.
- Madelyn’s voice is, as usual, an out-of-world motivation. She led wonderfully using her voice.
- Evie, Eireann and Madi’s rebounding efforts were excellent.
- Shay, unfortunately, had to sit out due to a knee injury, but her presence on the bench helped pump the team!
12-2 Girls – Charlize Nicolaou (sponsored by Mount Hawthorn Clinical Psychology)
Lost against Raiders 31-67
Coach comments
- The girls played a hard-fought game from start to finish! While the score doesn’t reflect it, the improvement in their performance since our last match was clear. Even the opposition coaches took the time to congratulate the team on how much they’ve grown.
- This was the best game I’ve seen them play in terms of teamwork and applying the skills they’ve been working on in training. Well done, girls!
- Anya played a solid game from the start to the finish. She consistently played defence and offence like a boss!
- Caitlin was a ninja in this game. She was defending girls double her size, stealing the ball without anyone realising and scoring in times where the defence didn’t know where she was!
12-3 Girls – Paul Philpott
Lost against East Perth Eagles Blue 23-46
Coach comments
- A challenging game against East Perth Eagles today unveiled that basketball does not create character, it reveals it. Our wonderful Redbacks girls were in the mix right from the tip-off. Whilst we trailed at each quarter, the third saw our girls pull out something special, matching the Eagles score by score, showing that nobody who ever gave their best would regret it! Well done to a tough bunch of players.
- Daisy Robertson turned on a superb defensive display, often trapping opposition at the sideline, despite taking a couple of heavy knocks.
- Ellie Barrett jumped for joy at scoring a couple of net-only free throws, proving that if anyone could do it, she could.
- Hazel McElvenny was an absolute flash on court, chasing down those Eagles attempting a break and interrupting their clear shots at goal.
12-4 Girls – Dave Power
Lost against East Perth 20-23
Coach comments
- In this game, we did very well defensively. Offensively, we got the shot attempts we wanted, getting to the basket lots of times in the first half. If we scored half of them, we may have been able to apply some scoreboard pressure. A couple of turnovers decided the game, so we are happy we were in a position where we had lots we could control to put us in good positions.
- Shanaya Siva scored her first ever WABL points – she is getting more aggressive each week.
- Mahli Parsons was very effective on defence, being disruptive in the middle third of the court and handling the ball well with limited turnovers.
- Aurelie Ford is starting to show her potential with some big defensive plays and scoring a couple of baskets when we needed them.

Lost against Perry Lakes Hawks 55-68
Coach comments
- The game started well with the boys moving the ball fast and smart, as well as moving on offence and making great cuts to the basket to find good looks at the basket. This was a massive improvement on last week. The boys’ defensive efforts were strong as well, with them doing the best to wall up and not bring their hands down and not swipe when guarding, allowing them to take chest blows. The boys should be very proud of their efforts and look to carry the same intensity and energy into the rest of the season.
- Thomas Stephenson’s defensive energy and physicality were a major influence on the game. His presence set the tempo for the rest of the boys defensively. Offensively, Tom made strong drives to the basket, allowing him to find good looks as well as making the extra pass to his teammates to have good looks at the basket. Great jo,b Tommy.
- Ryan Karaki was strong offensively, making strong drives to the basket through contact and creating space to allow his teammates open shots. Defensively, he did well to be physical and stay in front of his player. He also did well to box out and make room to rebound. Well done Ryan.
- Levi Giglia was strong on the defensive end, crashing the glass and forcing stops with his defensive presence and pressure. Offensively, he did well to see the floor and find our runners in transition. He also did well to keep the offence moving with his passing. Well done, Levi.

Lost against Cockburn Cougars 51-57
Coach comments
- This was one of the toughest and most exciting games of our season so far. While the final score didn’t swing our way, I’m incredibly proud of the boys for the heart, fight, and resilience they showed, especially in the second half.
- We started the game well defensively, but struggled to convert our opportunities early. After taking an early 2–0 lead, Cockburn found rhythm late in the first quarter, finishing with a strong run to lead 15–7. That run put us on the back foot, and we couldn’t find consistent scoring in the second quarter. Despite a strong defensive effort, Cockburn stretched their lead to 27–12 with a 12–2 burst before halftime.
- Our third quarter was a turning point. The boys came out with a different level of energy and composure, and we finally found our groove offensively. We traded baskets for most of the quarter and trailed 38-21, then we started to turn it around. Hudson led the way with some big buckets with scores from Quinn, Baxter and Louis. We clawed our way back from a 17-point deficit, cutting it to just 6 by the end of the third quarter at 38–32, capped off by a brilliant 11-point team run.
- The fourth quarter was electric. We scored the first 6 points to tie it at 38–38 early, and from there it was a back-and-forth battle. Jesse, Quinn, and Hudson all stepped up with huge baskets, and we even took the lead at 44–42. The boys showed grit and composure under pressure, and every player who stepped on court gave us valuable minutes.
- Unfortunately, in the final two minutes, Cockburn hit a couple of clutch threes and capitalised at the foul line. We stayed in it right to the final buzzer, bringing the margin down to just six in a high-pressure finish.
- Quinn Connell had his best game of the season, making a huge impact on both ends of the floor. He finished with 10 points at an efficient 50%, grabbed 5 rebounds, and racked up an outstanding 7 steals. His defensive instincts were on full display, constantly disrupting the opposition’s offence and creating transition opportunities for the team. Quinn also showed composure and strength under pressure, finishing through contact and staying aggressive throughout. This was a complete, confident performance from Quinn, a real step forward in his development and contribution to the team.
- Jesse Freeman delivered a solid, composed performance, contributing 7 points at 43% shooting and pulling in 5 rebounds. What stood out most was his care for the ball—Jesse protected possession with maturity, making smart decisions under pressure and avoiding costly turnovers. He was reliable in transition and played his role effectively at both ends. Jesse’s steady presence helped anchor the team in key moments and reflected his growing confidence and understanding of the game.

Lost against Hills Raiders Grey 33-68
Coach comments
- A tough game for the team with only 6 players. After a brief discussion before the game, the boys believed in themselves and their teammates, resulting in flashes of great and energetic play from the boys.
- Alex Kirou demonstrated maturity and leadership throughout the game, handling the ball well. He made some great decisions, which led to open shots for his teammates. Alex’s ability to drive to the hoop as well as be a leader on the court, makes him a vital asset to our team.
- Bradley Vinac was a force to be reckoned with when he had the ball in his hands, ending the game with 12 points. His passes, particularly in the 4th quarter, allowed us to get some good looks at the basket.
- Hunter Gunnis’ role in the team has been increasing as the season goes on, and his ability to set solid screens and drives to the hoop were great to see. Hunter’s decision making has been constantly improving, and this game showed flashes of what Hunter is capable of, which was great to see.

Lost against Cockburn 40-47
Coach comments
- We had a slow start and struggled to handle the full court pressure from Cockburn, which led to early turnovers that really hurt us.
- In the second quarter, we regrouped wel,l lifting our defensive intensity and winning the quarter. We held Cockburn to just 5 points and managed to reduce the margin to 4 heading into halftime.
- The third quarter saw us struggle again, and Cockburn extended their lead to 15. But full credit to the girls, they never gave up. We fought back in the fourth quarter, closing the gap to just 3 points late in the game, before Cockburn hit a crucial three.
- Turnovers and missed opportunities from the free-throw line were costly, but the determination and fight we showed to keep coming back were really encouraging and a big positive to take away from the game.
- A big thank you to Rose Bacci for stepping up to play this week while we were short on numbers; she held her own and gave us some valuable minutes.
- Mia Exeter was once again a spark at both ends of the floor, finishing with a double-double: 16 points, 12 rebounds, 5 steals, 2 assists, and 3 blocks.
- Isabel Nesa continues to grow in confidence each week and delivered a strong defensive effort. Her work rate and willingness to do the little things that don’t always show on the stat sheet make a real difference for us.
- Paige Granato remains a consistent and reliable contributor on both ends, making smart decisions under pressure, setting great screens to open up and create opportunities for her teammates, and using her pace effectively on defence to apply pressure and wall up in transition. She finished with 9 points and 2 handy blocks.
14-2 Girls – Reid Ballantine (sponsored by Access Hire)
Lost against Hills Raiders 49-60
Coach comments
- We opened this game with some sleepy defence, letting Hills lay it up too easily.
- But we played ourselves into the game and kept fighting. At one point, about two minutes into the third quarter, they had us by 27 (45-18) but we fought back through the third and fourth (31-15) to get within 11. Well done girls!
- Lily Butler worked hard pouncing at rebounds and was a strong presence in the keyway.
- Winnie Devitt and Isla Cowman lead the fight back with steals, deflections, and fast transition buckets. A standout game for both of them.
- Bianca Bajin was bussin, I love how she doesn’t get intimidated and finds her own space to go to work. She was causing trouble all game (in a good way).
14-3 Girls – Rori Roberts (sponsored by National Geotech)
Won against Suns 44-43
Coach comments
- A tough game for the girls, but they were able to stay together and get the job done, playing hard all game and executing everything we have been working on. It was really pleasing to watch.
- The end of the game got crazy, with both teams going basket for basket in the last minute. The Suns managed to hit a free throw to go up 1. A timeout from us saw a drive from Bella Nevill to score 2 points and get the win with 2 seconds left.
- Bella Nevill was huge in this game both offensively and defensively, finishing with 12 points, 10 steals and 4 deflections.
- Rose Bacci and Darcy Brian were the heart and soul on the defensive end, especially in the 4th quarter when the game was there to be won. They put their bodies on the line and came away with some big stops.
- It was great to welcome back Josie Smith, who played her first game back from injury and finished with 3 points and 5 rebounds.

Coach comments
- Ever seen the joy of a team hitting an improbable game-winning three-point shot? Well, unfortunately, this week we were on the other side of the heave.
- As a coach, this game felt strangely like a win. We dominated for large periods of the game, and it is just about playing a disciplined style of basketball until the final whistle.
- I’m extremely proud of how our boys and spectators conduct themselves. A one-point loss can be emotional, however, in our case, good sportsmanship stood out.
- Being down 3 players on our squad, we knew there would be extra work. Harry Frame picked up the workload and clocked near on game game-high minutes for us. On Harry’s final sub, he came to the bench exhausted after putting in an all round effort on defence, offence and transition.
- Ted Jarlett continues to be a double-double machine. In this game, he contributed 12 points (@50%) and 13 rebounds. Ted is the key to our reduction in turnovers; guards are looking at him almost as a primary option on presses.
- Loki Griffiths just continues to improve and in this game had his own double-double with 11 points @50%) and 10 rebounds. Loki did everything right in the dying seconds and even hit a clutch pressure free throw. Keep improving and we’ll unleash the double-headed monster (Ted & Loki) come finals.

Lost against Cockburn Cougars 47-52
Coach comments
- Very proud of the boys’ commitment to fight for a win in what was a physical contest and well fought by both sides that went bucket for bucket all day.
- We worked our way through multiple impact injuries and were every chance to win but things did not go our way down the stretch and we fell just short.
- Down numbers, injured players during the game and perhaps not getting some whistles we might have expected to get, it was not our day, but the group will be stronger because of it.
- Laurence Yape showed courage and team spirit to come back into the game after receiving unnecessary contact after a heavy foul and was influential throughout the game.
- Noah Ouwendyk was strong on the ball all game and trusted his dribble skills under pressure and finished some tough drives.
- Lucas Blackmore battled hard under the basket all day, finished off some of our work with some well-timed movement and fought on against a bigger opponent all day.
14-4 Boys – Ethan Saliacus (sponsored by Meritus Legal)
Lost against Perry Lakes 76-38
Coach comments
- This was a frustrating game on a few levels, but there were some good patches of us at our best and some at our worst or close to it. We had good pressure at times that caused them to take timeouts, but after a fairly big deficit, it was always hard to completely get back in the game
- Flynn, I thought, was very good on both ends. In defence, he was tough, stayed in front and fought for rebounds. He also had a good all-around offensive game – finding his teammates for open layups out of transition or cuts
- Harry, after the first quarter, was a beast on both ends. He managed to get some points on the board through sheer effort and determination and along with Flynn was key on the rebounds against a team that had our number on that front.

Won against Cockburn 53-51
16-2 Girls – Simon Daff (sponsored by West Coast Reinforcing)
Won against South West Slammers 64-53
Coach comments
- Driving down and playing Slammers in Bunbury is always a challenge, and today was no different. It took us a little while to get going, but we really hit our straps in the second quarter. The composure and trust within this group to play for each other were fully on show. Our pick-and-roll actions were the best we’ve had all year, and it’s good to see the girls start to evolve as players.
- We held the lead for the rest of the game. Despite a challenging and physical last quarter, we managed to hold our nerve.
- Cherie Zak continues to have a very consistent season. She always finds a way to slow the game down and play at her pace, and is never rushed. This allows her to make very good decisions with the basketball.
- Alice Lawrance was back to her best. She played tough and physical and was rewarded on the scoreboard. Whenever the Slammers made a run, she found a way to regain our momentum.
16-3 Girls – Dahney Chamberlain (sponsored by Total Digital)
Lost against Eastern Suns 55-73
Coach comments
- The Suns got out to a 6-point lead within two minutes. The girls turned on the defensive energy and teamwork, making it very hard for the Suns from that point on. Finishing the first quarter 22-22 showed the strength the 8 girls had shown. A few extra threes for the Suns in the fourth quarter allowed them a bigger lead. The girls showed tremendous flexibility in play and superb resilience in the face of being short of players.
- Hayley Hill made excellent shots today, amassing 27 points.
- Equally impressive were Ella Fair and Nadia Slee’s defence in transition.
- Sasha Kuan showed she’s strong at both ends and had a consistently great game.
16-4 Girls – Caitlin Rawes (sponsored by NewSmile Dental Centre)
Won against Cougars 70-60
Coach comments
- Awesome game from the girls, we knew this would be a close one, and it was a nail-biter. The girls pulled through, played as a team, and got the win.
- Maia Leckey has been consistently stepping up in game and this was no different. She had 20 points today.
- You can never fault Nora Ostermeyer’s energy. It was on full display in this game.
16-1 Boys – Francis Crawshaw (sponsored by Pivot Project Consulting)
Lost against Willetton Tigers 80-70
Coach comments
- Not a bad defensive effort overall, holding Willetton to 80 points. But we struggled to contain Willetton’s inside presence. Restricted to 7 players, with injuries and absence, all players took their opportunities with more game time than usual.
- Again we got really good open looks but failed to convert.
- Travis Hunt used his speed to his advantage, getting in the lane at will.
- Nate Cass worked hard again, on the rebounds, and cutting hard to the basket, finishing with 20.
- James Galvin again confidently knocking down his outside shot, and getting to the basket with 21.
16-2 Boys – Dave Power (sponsored by F45 Vic Park)
Won against Lakeside 86-65
Coach comments
- After a good start in the first quarter saw us finish up 8 points, the next 2 quarters we weathered runs from Lakeside and while we missed some shots we are used to making, we executed well enough to go into the 4th with a 5 point lead.
- The 4th quarter we stepped up our defence and executed offensively very well to finish up 21.
- Isaac Fode played both sides of the ball with good on ball defence and aggressive offensively. Poised on offence picking his moments Issac was hard to stop.
- Tace Rankin played his inside/out game and was able to get some solid finishes at the rim.
- The Tobys – Summers and Schultz – were a defensive menace to their ball carriers and helped us control the pace of the game.
16-3 Boys – Ash Brian (sponsored by Cogito Psychology)
Won against Slammers 83-74
Coach comments
- We controlled this game from start to finish and never looked back, securing a solid win over the team that beat us by two points in Round 4. This one had been circled on the calendar as ‘The Redemption Game,’ and after weeks of refining some key defensive principles for this exact matchup, it was extremely satisfying for everyone to come away with the win.
- Lucas Vojkovic, who lit up the Slammers for six threes last time, showed it wasn’t a fluke — draining another four from deep, even with them clearly keyed in on him.
- It was also a huge boost to welcome Matthew Lucano back into the lineup after a short break. He’s our glue guy, and his calm presence is crucial to how we function. Matt finished with 4 points, 5 boards, 7 assists, 3 deflections, and 2 steals — a classic all-round impact game.

Lost to Eastern Suns 66-74
18-1 Girls – Sam Fox (sponsored by Woods Insurance Brokers)
Won against Rockingham Flames 76-67
Coach comments
- Down a few troops this round, we were mindful of managing fatigue and staying disciplined on the defensive end for the full 40 minutes.
- Rockingham started fast as we expected them to, however, we did well to stay within reach. Trailing for most of the first half, we went into the break down 6.
- Being right where we wanted to be, the second half saw us gain ascendancy and really put the clamps on Rockingham, forcing them into numerous turnovers and converting them into points at the other end.
- Our effort and mindset on the offensive glass were duly rewarded with plenty of second-chance opportunities, resulting in 26 points for us.
- The girls have bought into and are understanding that our efforts in this area result in either extra possessions or great positioning in Trans D.
- Rockingham, also down a few troops, reverted to playing a Zone on D – to which we countered by picking up the pace and not allowing them to get set.
- Overall, a great team win going into the holiday break which now sees us climb up the ladder to 5th – within arm’s reach of the top 4.
- There has been a real attitude shift with this group in the last few weeks, after a tough start to the season saw us go 1-8.
- Amina Handule led the charge on the offensive glass, pulling in a game-high 8 offensive rebounds. I have challenged Amina in the last few weeks to “own the boards”, and she responded this game in a big way.
- Lailah Tasker relishes any opportunity to get physical on the defensive end and was at her disruptive best once again this game. Lailah is always putting her body on the line for the team – a loose ball hates to see her coming.
- Grace Almond came alive in the fourth quarter with some tough plays down the stretch.
- She gets herself in good positions and deservedly, reaps the rewards.
18-2 Girls – Geoff Alger (sponsored by The Loan Company)
Lost against East Perth 46-63
Coach comments
- This was a game where we felt competitive throughout despite never really getting our game going. We applied enough pressure to cause turnovers, but then turned the ball over too much ourselves, allowing our opponents too many easy opportunities in transition and from offensive boards.
- The score could have still been much closer with a fair few good looks not dropping.
- The game could have been much closer with just small improvements in a few areas.
- Niamh Murphy and Arabella Kahl both rebounded hard and finished well.
- Lola Bingwa and Alex Temby showed consistent defensive effort throughout the game.
18-3 Girls – Marcia Dowling (sponsored by Packaging Perth)
Won against Eagles 43-42
Coach comments
- The girls were so united today. Mark Wigmore head-coached, and I was on the bench. The girls consistently pressed, and if needed, still ran back to set a zone defence due to pure energy and resilience. The patience they demonstrated on our offensive play was nothing short of excellent, and much of this they drove themselves, making choices that reflected the coach’s plans. It was a great tussle in the fourth quarter, but we kept the lead to the last moment.
- Mya Slee was a defensive menace and an offensive dynamite today.
- Charli Foster’s footwork and pace kept many defenders stunned. Both she and Ella Baxter made excellent shot choices.
- Meiling Wang was the fastest player on the court in the fourth and was essential to holding our lead
18-1 Boys – Stephen Charlton (sponsored by Cannington Mazda)
Won against Cockburn 109-67
Coach comments
- After being down 16-21 at the end of the first, the boys really picked it up from there, holding Cockburn to 46 points for the remainder of the game. Down to five players for this contest, we had excellent contributions from our play-ups, Hunter Mettam, Sam Pierce and Lachlan Abbott.
- Cuba Brian led our team and the game in scoring with 33 points to go with 8 rebounds, 4 assists and 6 steals.
- Jaden Exeter had a near triple-double with 24 points, 16 rebounds and 9 assists.
- Hamish Gibson led the team excellently at both ends. While his shots didn’t drop, he still came away with 9 points, 2 assists and 3 blocks.

Won against Redbacks 18-3 Boys 107-92
Coach comments
- This week’s clash between the two Redbacks teams in our division had all the makings of a classic. Being short on players, we brought up reinforcements from our Division 4 team—and they fit in seamlessly. We couldn’t have claimed the win without them.
- We exploded out of the gates with defensive stops and aggressive drives, especially from Zadyn, setting the early tone. But the opposition showed grit, responding with runs of their own. The game became a back-and-forth battle: they’d hit us, we’d rally; we’d build momentum, they’d claw it back.
- Deegan and Sam were relentless on the boards. Deegan also showed off his range, knocking down a few smooth triples. Our guards stepped up in a big way—locking in defensively and sparking transition plays. The game’s highlight reel was full of deep step-back threes and slick drives to the rim.
- Hunter lit it up in front of his former coach Dan, putting on an absolute show.
- In the fourth quarter, we finally created enough separation to pull away. And while we felt in control for much of the match, it never felt like dominance—the other team had the firepower to storm back at any moment. In the end, it was a gritty, exciting game played with heart by both sides.
- Hunter recorded 37 points, 8 rebounds and 6 assists for the game. A huge effort from him. Deegan recorded 16 points and 13 boards.
- Gabe Fode demonstrated great play-making and drives to the basket

Won against Willetton 104 vs 55
Coach comments
- Heading into our second game against Willetton for the season, we had a game plan that had to be adjusted when we learned they had a few bigs playing up from 16 1’s. We also had a couple of players away and injured, so we had the focus to win this game
- In the first quarter, we started out not playing as a team. We lacked ball movement in offence and low offensive rebounding, which resulted in Willetton taking advantage in transition. A timeout was needed to reset the thinking that we should have been up by a lot more as we were the stronger team. Rushing shots was not how we would have a solid win. Defence was sloppy, and a change was needed.
- In quarter two, we reset our focus on intense full-court man-to-man defence and adjusted our offence. It was great to see the team listening and making the adjustment.
- Quarters 3 and 4 were great to watch the team maintain what they were asked, which led to the increase from a 12-point lead at the end of the second quarter to a 49-point margin for the final score.
- Quincy Harawha had a fantastic game both ends of the court. His development through the season to become a point guard, came through this game. He is implementing what we have been coaching on, with setting composure in offence and assists. His ability to read defence and work with the bigs in the post is fantastic to watch. Quincy was fouled out in 4th quarter, but set the team challenge of 100pts – team hit the target!
- Mark Sunkar was impressive on defence, rebounding, ball pressure and working with Quincy to trap – which was key to the success of our win. Mark had a great 3rd and 4th quarters offensively contributing to the team total.
- Novak had a great game working hard on offence and defence. With a few bigs on the Willetton team, he delivered a strong game on help D, 12pts, rebounding and encouraging the team.

Won against Cockburn 72-69
Coach comments
- After a slow first quarter, the girls really picked up the intensity. A brilliant third quarter turned the game when we outscored Cockburn 20-8.
- Jenna Jackson led the scoring with 24 points while also playing great D and applying constant pressure to the opposition guards.
- Blaise Stancil had 17 points.
- Olivia Bennison really helped turn the game with a brilliant 3rd quarter.

- In what was a typical derby clash, both teams came out with a bit of fire in them, trading baskets back and forth throughout the first quarter, which ended with the scores tied at 22 apiece.
- The second quarter followed a similar pattern early on, with both sides continuing to trade buckets. However, the 20/1 boys began to take control, capitalising on transition opportunities and converting on the break. They outscored the 20/2 side 27 to 18 in the quarter, taking a 9-point lead into halftime.
- The third quarter saw the 20/1s come out firing, going on a dominant 19–6 run to open the period. The 20/2 team managed to steady the ship midway through, slowing the momentum and finding a few answers, but the damage was done. The quarter finished 40 to 26 in favour of the 20/1s, who now held a 23-point lead heading into the final period.
- The fourth quarter turned into another back-and-forth contest, with both teams continuing to trade baskets. The strong third quarter from the 20/1s proved decisive, as they maintained their lead and edged the quarter 28 to 27, securing a 117 to 93 win.
- Luke Ogden had a great shooting day with 30 points.
- David Moore finished with 20 points.
- Max Wishart finished with 19 points.
