Lackovic resigns from Redbacks SBL program

The Perth Redbacks were recently advised by Nik Lackovic that he would not be returning as Men’s SBL coach for Texture WA Perth Redbacks in 2020.

After eight years at the helm and with some significant business and basketball opportunities outside of the SBL, Nik believes that it is a great time for him and the club to move onto new challenges. It goes without saying that Nik’s passion and dedication to the Perth Redbacks program has been second to none. During his tenure as head coach Lackovic led the team back to the amazing heights of winning the club’s fourth championship in 2017 after a twenty-year hiatus.

Lackovic has embedded himself as a club legend becoming the first Redback to win a championship as a player and then as a head coach, but his greatest strength has been the early identification of junior talent and developing and progressing that talent onto higher pathways, with the likes of Kyle Bowen, Marshall Nelson and Jayden Stone all being under Nik’s guidance.

We would like to thank Nik for his incredible dedication and contribution as MSBL Coach and his work throughout the entire men’s program. Nik has worked tirelessly to continuously keep the Redbacks at the top of the MSBL competition. Nik has constantly evolved the program and Nik’s passion for the program and the Perth Redbacks club as a whole has been unparalleled.

We look forward to Nik’s passion and experience in new roles in and around the club in the coming years.

The search for the 2020 Men’s SBL Head Coach begins immediately, with interested applicants encouraged to contact gm@perthredbacks.asn.au for further details.
