Redbacks is home for Herbert and 2021 is time to elevate

He’s never represented any club other than Redbacks, right from his first junior WABL days and we’re delighted to have developing NBL1 forward Jordan Herbert back with us in 2021.

For his part, Jordan is happy to be back for another season in Redbacks colours:

“I’m one of only a couple Redbacks juniors still around so obviously it’s exciting to start from the beginning at a club and continue to go through there for your whole career. It’s a place that is very special to me and it means a lot to me to still be playing at the Redbacks.

While there’s always the option to look elsewhere, it’s special to stay where you’ve started. I’ve been around a lot of great players I’ve played with at the Redbacks and I want to continue that. It’s always great to be here and that’s why I wanted to stay.”

What is it about Redbacks that keeps Jordan here?

“Being around these boys – especially like Joel Wagner who has been there since the start – we have a great culture here at this club. Then you have everything behind the scenes and all the directors and volunteers put in a lot of effort as well as the coaches. As players, you want to help reward them for everything they do.”

What’s Jordan looking to build on from 2020?

“Last year was obviously a very different season thanks to COVID but we also had new players and a new coach on board. It was a real fresh year but we had high standards for ourselves which is good. Now going into NBL1 this season, I reckon we’ll take a bigger step and it’s going to be exciting.”

What changes is he expecting to see with the shift to NBL1?

“Obviously, everything is going to go up a level. With all the games being live-streamed that will allow anyone wherever they are to have a good look at you like scouts or family. I’m sure a lot of imports and other players have family and friends interstate and overseas so this will be great to provide them with a chance to watch them play.”

Did he enjoy his first year with CJ as coach?

“I’ve known CJ for many years now as I made my way through the WABL age groups and when he was coach at Perry Lakes. When I heard he’d be taking over as coach, I was excited, and it was something new to look forward to. He is a great coach and great person overall, and he loves his basketball which becomes infectious to the team.”

CJ enjoyed coaching him and is looking forward to seeing him take the next step in 2021:

“I feel this will be Jordan’s time to elevate in terms of getting better at what he does. Which is being a four or five man who can talk all the time, be aggressive and run the floor hard when he can to get some easy scores. I think with the rest of the kids that we have, it just makes things easier for him to be able to do all of that.”

NBL1 Director Nathan Barns is delighted to have Jordan re-signed for 2021:

“Herbie is a great club man. He loves the Redbacks and we love him. He brings height and toughness to our men’s NBL1 team and we are expecting him to develop further throughout 2021, pushing for a regular spot on the team.”
