Life Member Profile – Bryn Arnold

Bryn Arnold commenced playing in the Perth Redbacks Vic Park Domestic Competition in 1990. He played through all the grades from U14 to U18 at the Park Centre. Bryn also represented the Redbacks in WABL and was awarded MVP in the Under 18 Boys Div2. In 1996 he was awarded the Graham ‘Pixie’ Smith trophy for his outstanding play and contribution to the junior members.

Bryn was a junior referee at Park Domestic Competition from the age of 12 years and was a WABL referee for the Redbacks. He also became an accredited SBL Referee, officiating at WSBL games and also Wildcats exhibition games. Bryn has refereed at National Junior Basketball Championships including the National U20 Championships in Perth in 2006. Bryn also served as Referees Coordinator at the PBA Park Centre junior competition for many years.

Bryn has coached many WABL Junior teams after being an assistant coach for some years, coaching both boys and girls teams. He was also an Assistant SBL Men’s coach under Nik Lackovic.

Bryn has served on the PBA’s WABL Committee for several years and has also been a PBA Board Member.

Bryn has been recognised with a number of awards which include WABL Referee of Year, WABL Coach of the Year and SBL Referee of the Year. In 1998, Bryn was recorded on the Roll of Honour and awarded the Medal of Honour for his lengthy ongoing service to the Perth Basketball Association.

Bryn Arnold was awarded Life Membership of the Perth Basketball Association in 2015.
