Life Member Profile – Andrew Lewis

Andrew Lewis was a product of the PBA’s Junior Development Program in the late 1970s when he was a student at Applecross SHS. In 1981 Andrew was awarded the Graham ‘Pixie’ Smith Trophy as the most outstanding junior men’s player for that year.

Following a successful junior career, Andrew played on our A-Grade team (1979-88) and was in the inaugural Wildcats NBL 1982 team. Andrew also played on our SBL teams (1990-92) under coach Don Shepherd and was part of our 1990 Premiership Team alongside Luc Longley and Andrew Vlahov. In 1983, 1984 and 1991, Andrew won the Joseph Brehmer Most Rebounds Trophy for the Redbacks SBL team and in 1987 and 1988 was the Redbacks SBL Fairest and Best Trophy winner. In 1984 Andrew was awarded the PBA President’s Trophy for the Association Member of the Year. In 1990 and 1991 Andrew was named in the SBL All-Star team.

Following his retirement as a player, Andrew coached numerous junior Redback WABL teams over the years. 1991 U18 Div 1, 1993 U18 Div 2 (Runners Up), 1995 U18 Div 2, 1998 U16 Div 2, 1999 U18 Div 2, 1999 BWA U17 (State Champions), 2000 U18 Div 1 WABL (Champions), 2009 U13, 2010 U14, 2016 U12 (Runners Up). In 1995 and 1996 Andrew was the Junior Boys’ Co-ordinator. The Junior WABL Coach of the Year trophy is awarded annually bearing his name.

Off the court, he was Junior Committee Treasurer during the ’80s and PBA Club Secretary (2000-2003)

In 1998 Andrew was awarded a Medal of Honour for his ongoing contribution to the PBA as well as the ultimate recognition by his club; the awarding of Life Membership.
