Weekly WABL Wrap – Round 12 – 26 July 2026

12-1 Girls – Olivia Weddikara (sponsored by Visa4You Migration Agency)

Lost against East Perth Eagles 20-55

Coach comments

  • The girls played really well against a very talented and strong team. They struggled at first to use 5-out and work as a team, but after a timeout, they came out super strong and used their talent and teamwork to their advantage.
  • Jem was super strong offensively and defensively and was consistently a standout player this weekend.
  • Immy was our strongest and most reliable ball handler today. Even though she’s not the tallest, she uses her talents really well.
  • Hazel is a very confident young girl who controls her team and is a leader both on and off the court.

12-2 Girls – Dave Power (sponsored by RocketDNA)

Won against Warwick 44-24

Coach comments

  • We opened the game with a huge first quarter, taking an 18-2 lead. Experimenting with some different line-ups, we continued to play well in the second quarter at 15-8 to go into half time up 33-10.
  • We let the girls play without any time outs to build resilience and moved players into different positions to see how we responded. We created lots of good looks at the rim in the second half, but fatigue started to set in and we didn’t convert shots we would normally make.
  • Defensively, we were really good and that helped us maintain our lead through to the end of the game. Top effort after a long break.
  • Emily Sundstrom had her first game back from injury and had some good patches of defence, made some great passes to teammates in space, and started to find her way back into the game.
  • India Mascurine was a much needed spark off the bench at both ends of the floor with stops, steals and running lanes to score.

12-3 Girls – Paul Philpott (sponsored byInternational Commissioning Solutions Group Pty Ltd)

Won against Perth Redbacks U12-4, 46-25

Coach comments

  • Whoop Whoop another glossy finish against our family of Perth Redbacks 4’s.
  • Our sister teams kept us on our toes this week, making us earn each possession & each point. Whilst slow to start, our girls regrouped in the 3rd and 4th quarters to demonstrate that the strength of the team is each member and the strength of each member is the team. Our wonderful Redbacks girls should feel proud of their team efforts today.
  • Whilst a collective outstanding performance today, our Ava Horsten, Shanaya Siva and Ruby Rath were all shooting like arrows, whilst Tliyah Gordon with excellent follow up proved strong under both rings, sending a few up the mountain herself.

12-4 Girls – Indiana Ballantine (sponsored by Bruining Partners and John Hughes Ford)

Lost against Perth Redbacks U12-3, 46-25

Coach comments

  • This week we played the Redbacks 3s team. The girls played hard and kept up the intensity throughout the whole game.
  • The 3s team had us beaten for speed, but the girls showed great effort and determination to keep up with them and went into half-time only 5 points down.
  • Ultimately, it was some simple turnovers in the backcourt that let us down. However, the girls made leaps and bounds from the last time we played this team and brought great energy late in the game.
  • Molly worked hard bringing the ball up the court. She had a few full court layups that helped to keep momentum flowing when we needed it most.
  • We welcomed Eva back from injury this week. It was good to have another fast player on defence that helped to apply pressure full court.
  • Another player that played a big part in our defence was Mila Spick who shut down some of their best players with her clean defence.

Won against Flames 55-38

12-4 Boys – Charlize Nicolaou (sponsored by Float Docks)

Won against Perry Lakes 67-60

Coach comments

  • The boys played a hard-fought game across all four quarters. They played well as a team, using quick thinking and sharp passing to outplay the Hawks, and in the end, their teamwork and effort helped them secure the win.
  • Will went 11/14 from the free throw line for the entire game. His shot from the line was almost perfect every time, and he should be really proud of the development and confidence he is showing with his free throws!
  • Orson was a gun in defence, showing everyone he was not here to play or be pushed around. He showed everyone how much he improved over the holidays and was one of our most consistent defenders.
  • Ari was a little champion on Sunday. He was playing like a star, making it seem like he was never on holiday, but at a scouting camp in Europe. This man was stealing the ball like an NBA star.

12-5 Boys – Craig Dropulich (sponsored by Ganjing World)

Lost against Eagles 33-72

14-1 Girls – Rori Roberts (sponsored by National Geotech)

Won against East Perth 51-25

Coach comments

  • A fast first 3 minutes to start the game saw our energy levels high, however, East Perth lifted their effort, and we were unable to get the ball in the hoop, which saw us only up by 4 at halftime.
  • A big 15-6 third quarter saw us take control of the game and we never looked back from there. Our defence picked up, which saw us get easy transition layups and gain all the momentum.
  • Darcey Hill had a great game, finding her teammates and handling the ball up the floor. She finished with 4 assists, 8 steals and 7 rebounds.
  • Olive Bird and Rose Bacci also added 8 steals while Elsey Lohman White had 7.
  • Josie Smith pulled down 10 rebounds and had some awesome defensive plays.

14-2 Girls – Whitney Perret (sponsored by Accelerate Blue)

Won against Raiders 57-46

Coach comments

  • The team started strong and steadily built a double digit lead.
  • The girls did well to look after the ball and drew plenty of fouls against the Raiders.
  • In the final quarter they increased their pressure but we held our nerve, maintained the lead and did well to finish the game with an 11pt lead.
  • Charlee made some really great decisions and was very poised with the ball. Her confidence in handling the ball and pressure is growing.
  • Lilly did well to push the ball, get to open spots and contain the ball carrier. She consistently boxed out and got after the boards.
  • Elly was strong on the boards, shot well and played outside her usual role. She top scored for the team and ran both ends of the floor. She is getting much stronger offensively and defensively.

14-3 Girls – Matt Bailey (sponsored by Crothers Pty Ltd)

Won against Flames 77-34

14-4 Girls – Bryn Arnold (sponsored by Mount Hawthorn Clinical Psychology)

Lost against Warwick 19-75

Coach comments

  • A tough game against one of the best teams in our division. The girls fought hard for the entire match and never took a backwards step.
  • It was great to see them continue trying to execute the things we’ve been working on in recent weeks. Their effort, intent, and willingness to compete were outstanding.
  • Jess Beacham worked hard throughout the game and did a great job attacking the basket and rebounding strongly.
  • Zoe Kut and Millie Kavanagh showed that good things happen with quick decision making and strong passes, keep up the good work.

14-1 Boys – Dave Ogden (sponsored by Global Cabling)

Lost against Mandurah 48-47

Coach comments

  • Down in Mandurah on the weekend after a successful weekend at Bendat, where the boys won the Div 1 Winter Classic. We met a determined Magic side that played committed basketball in the first half, where our offence just didn’t quite click. The boys responded with a big 3rd quarter and had the game won, but we didn’t execute late, and giving up the last two baskets of the game left us with lots of things to ponder!
  • Very impressed by the continued improvement of Harrison P, who gives our side lots of energy and effort and was instrumental in his role in the 3rd quarter.
  • Victor M and Ned T play above their size and tried hard to compete on the boards, giving us some impact in that area. Ollie L also crashes the offensive boards with intent from the weakside block.
  • Maz T had some nice finishes in traffic to complete the other areas of his game.
  • A loss where we need to build on if we are to have success later in the year.

14-2 Boys – Craig Dropulich (sponsored by M & T Gomm Pty Ltd ATF Gomm Family Trust T/As Customised Metal Works)

Won against Lakeside 69-32

14-3 Boys – Dom Pitchen (sponsored by Candy Verse)

Won against Suns 55-58

Coach comments

  • The boys started the game strongly, spacing the court well, moving the ball effectively, and creating quality scoring opportunities.
  • As the game progressed, the contest became increasingly physical and intense, but the boys showed great resilience by maintaining their composure and continuing to compete with determination.
  • Their teamwork, effort, and willingness to battle for every possession were outstanding, and they never backed down from the challenge. Their hard work and perseverance were rewarded with a well-earned victory that every player should be extremely proud of.
  • It was a fantastic team performance built on discipline, resilience, and a commitment to playing for one another.
  • Levi did very well to keep applying pressure on the defensive end without foul even when he was in foul trouble. Offensively, his constant movement and space creation allowed for himself and others to score. Well done Levi.
  • Zac’s shooting was a massive factor in the game hitting shots consistently throughout the game and keeping us competitive. Defensively, his rebounding and physicality allowed for us to get important stops.

Lost against Warwick 42-91

16-2 Girls – Reid Ballantine (sponsored by Access Hire)

Lost against Lakeside 65-66

Coach comments

  • Good to be up there with the top team today, a huge improvement from our last game against them, and we came so very close!!
  • Defensively we owned the keyway but Lakeside were too red hot from outside and even when we defended the 3 well, they pulled up deeper and then even deeper and hit some elite shots. We had a great hustle in the last 2 minutes. So close.
  • Georgie Clarke kept attacking the keyway and was fully locked in for 27 points.
  • Some sleek outside shooting from both Anabella Lewis and Sasha Kuan in big moments   gave us some great energy boosts.
  • Sasha was absolutely brilliant on defence today, guarding well across the top, bumping, switching, and getting clean defensive hands on the ball for the deflections, steals, and jumpballs. Awesome hustle!

16-3 Girls – Geoff Alger (sponsored by Habitat Finance)

Lost against Slammers 53-63

Coach comments

  • Shorthanded again with injuries we’d like to send a big thanks to Rori and the 14-1s for releasing Lily early from their game so she could make the trip down to Slammers with us. Redbacks club spirit is as strong as ever.
  • This was a difficult game with Slammers regularly changing up their defense to disrupt our offensive flow. This, with a little rustiness from the recent holidays and some fatigue affected our offensive skill execution and decision making which limited our scoring opportunities and also allowed some costly points off turnovers for our opposition.
  • Defensive effort was there but like our offense, some lapses in concentration were capitalised on by our opponents.
  • There were some runs and moments where we showed some good basketball to stay within 4 points with a few minutes to go and the girls should be proud of their efforts to stay in the contest right until the end.
  • Lily Butler played with intent whenever she was on the court and was impactful with her steals and defensive disruptions and fought really well to secure rebounds.
  • Sally Dowling also played with intent and focus throughout, fighting hard in every contest and consistently positioning herself well and making great decisions on and off the ball at both ends of the floor.
  • Freya Whitehouse was once again efficient offensively and committed defensively hitting the floor with vigour whenever a loose ball was there for the taking.
  • Isla Cowman played a great team game, impeccable in defense and safe as houses with ball in hand as always, she spread the floor nicely and patiently waited for her opportunities before efficiently draining her trademark threes when not creating for others.

Lost against Eagles 99-74

16-3 Boys –Vance Karimi (sponsored by School Bus Logistics Pty Ltd)

Lost against Cougars 78-89

Coach comments

  • We had a strong start this week with good defensive intensity in transition and in a set D.
We were indecisive in the second quarter with the ball and dropped that defensive intensity.
  • The boys adjusted really well in the third, chipped and fought hard to build a strong lead.
  • In the fourth we felt pressured to speed up and had too many turnovers. With 36 fouls to us and 30 to the opposition, we were experiencing unusual calls which slowed the game and resulted in multiple players fouling out. Regardless, the boys never gave up and know that they can claw back when they play with focus and intensity.
  • Rhys played with good intensity and effort all game, chased players down, hustled over screens and was strong defensively all over the court.
  • Mitch played a strong defensive game, scrambling to win loose ball contests, working hard to chase down his player to stop transition.
  • Kruz was patient with the ball and found timely cuts, showed misdirection highlights and dived on loose balls.
  • Tom had to work hard to lock down the big, deny catches on the high post, provide help on shot contests, and crash the boards on both ends.

16-4 Boys – Oliver March (sponsored by Rangecon)

Won against Slammers 54-60

18-1 Girls – Shaun Bennison (sponsored by Strike Drilling)

Lost against Warwick 61-31

Coach comments

  • Refreshed after the mid-season break, we were keen to add to the win column. Missing a few key pieces in Gabby and Kaia, the remaining girls were ready to step up.
  • Valuing possession was going to be a key factor in us being able to stay on par with Warwick – but their relentless pressure at times proved too much for us to handle.
  • The first half got away from us and we struggled to find any rhythm offensively.
  • We tightened up defensively in the third quarter – limiting them to only 6points but despite all the hard work, we could not convert our efforts into points at the other end.
  • Ultimately, we gave them back way too much possession from turnovers and they punished us for it.
  • Ella Welsh stayed aggressive throughout the game and led us in scoring.
  • Madi Makavilitogia’s presence was felt at both ends of the floor, particularly on the glass.
  • Sara Davis was a menace defensively. Her on ball pressure was constant and she locked down the Warwick guards all game.

18-2 Girls – Simon Daff (sponsored by West Coast Reinforcing)

Won against Lakeside 31-18 (game abandoned)

Coach comments

  • The girls came out a little rusty understandably after the two week break, but we found our groove again in the 2nd quarter to be up 13 at half time.
  • Unfortunately, there was a knee injury to a Lakeside player at the start of the 3rd quarter and the game had to be abandoned to wait for the ambulance to collect her. As the game had progressed past halftime, we were awarded the win as we were ahead at the time.
  • Halle Griffiths had an amazing first half, knocking down 4 first-half 3s. Her shot is really developing some range, and she was rewarded for all the hard work she has been putting in.
  • Millie Stancil came off the bench to kick start our run in the 2nd quarter. Her active hands created numerous opportunities on the fast break. She is a really steady influence when on the floor.

18-3 Girls – Marcia Dowling (sponsored by PWS Group and John Hughes Ford)

Won against Perth Redbacks U18-4, 72-38

Coach comments

  • Starting slowly on the scoreboard, the girls’ solid and effective defence kept the opposition’s score under control.
  • Before long, some of our best teamwork of the season was on display. This was our first game with all 10 of our own team fit and available, and it gives us plenty to look forward to as we head into the end of the season.
  • Beautiful ball movement up the court was consistently demonstrated, along with some admirable defensive efforts.
  • Ella Baxter has a high IQ and such composure on court. She scored well, always in space and defended 1v1 super effectively.
  • Maddy McKibbon was solid throughout the game at both ends.
  • Jamima Jacob brought high intensity and good rebounding under the basket.
  • Both Macaela Tugwell and Paige Wigmore also nailed many rebounds.
  • Every player contributed to the highest standard today.

Lost against Lakeside 66-47

Coach comments

  • We started great, with the team coming out excited and ready to play. Unfortunately, we became a little one-dimensional and settled for some poor shot selections, which hurt us in transition. We struggled to score consistently in the second half, and this was ultimately the difference between the two teams.
  • Hannah played well on the glass, along with Olivia, while Jenna did a great job keeping the pace of the game up when we needed it.

20-1 Boys – John Foley (sponsored by Bodytune Massage and Sports Therapies)

Won against Binar 63-119

20-2  Boys – Ofir Ben Dror (sponsored by Meyer Shircore Architects)

Won against East Perth 81-78

Coach comments

  • It was an extremely physical game from the beginning, which is what we expected playing East Perth at Morley.
  • The boys struggled to get going in the first half but they remained committed to our defensive strategy and by half time we were only 10 points down.
  • At three-quarter time, we were down by 14 points, but our superior fitness and willingness to work as a team saw us win the last quarter 29-12, taking the lead in the final minute and ultimately securing a well-deserved win by the entire team.
  • In the first half, Jack Ryder was outstanding at both ends of the court. He kept us in the game with some balanced mid-range shooting, attacking the basket in heavy traffic, taking some heavy contact, and playing lockdown defence.
  • Ty Demir (a former East Perth player) probably had his best game for the Redbacks. Diving for loose balls, using his strength on defense and inspiring his teammates to never give up at any point. Extremely pleased for him.
  • Make no bones about it, without Jay Hazell’s defensive efforts, we would not have won this game. He constantly had very big and physical players driving at him, and he never took a backward step. He sacrificed his usual offensive game to help the team win under difficult circumstances.
