Redbacks Men Welcome Roberts and Vigor back

The Texture WA Perth Redbacks are excited to welcome 2017 Championship winning players Michael Vigor and Lee Roberts back for the remainder of the 2018 SBL season.

Vigor and Roberts will make their return in tonight’s away game against the Rockingham Flames at Mike Barnett Sports Complex after recently returning from their respective overseas teams.

With the team sitting in third position on a 9-3 win-loss record, Head Coach Nik Lackovic was excited to welcome both players back for the second half of the season as the Redbacks Men look to defend their title.

“Whenever you have two championship players and people re-join your program, you tend to get a little excited. For the first time this season we will be able to field our full team on the floor.”

Redbacks junior, Vigor, re-joined the team on Thursday night after flying straight from Bristol where he has spent the off-season captaining the Bristol Flyers in the British Basketball League.

“Mike has come off an incredible last 12 months where, after winning an SBL championship he guided the Bristol Flyers to their highest finish in the playoffs as their captain and had an outstanding Commonwealth games experience for Scotland playing off for a medal” said Lackovic.

“We get back a player with a great IQ that has grown in my opinion hugely off that back of the exposure to high quality competition he has been involved in.”

Roberts, who averaged 22 points and 10 rebounds in 2017 with the Redbacks, arrived back in Perth last week after wrapping up his season in Italy.

“Lee is respected as one of the winningest players in basketball, having won championships across every level of the game. NCAA II champion 2009, Argentinian TNA champion 2013, Israeli National League Champion 2017 and SBL Champion and Grand Final MVP with us last season.”

“He is a true warrior of the sport who thrives on competition and is a tremendous leader both on and off the basketball court and the team and I are proud to have both of the guys back as we strive to want to make 2018 more memorable than 2017.”

You can catch both Vigor and Roberts in action at Belmont next Saturday 26 May against the Perry Lakes Hawks.
